The Maker
About Zareen
A family recipe. A lifelong craft. Made with love in California.
How It Started
A Recipe Passed Down, Not Written Down
Zareen grew up watching her mother make baklava the way her grandmother had — by feel, by memory, by the smell of butter browning in the pan. There was no recipe card. Just hands that knew what to do.
For years, baklava was something Zareen made for family gatherings, for neighbors, for who happened to be nearby when the oven was on. The response was always the same: when can I get more?
Baklava by Zareen began as an answer to that question. Every box is still made by hand, in small batches, the same way it has always been made.
The Craft
Nothing Rushed. Nothing Artificial.
Thrity-two Layers
Each piece is built from sheets of hand-laid phyllo, brushed with clarified butter between every layer. It takes time. That's the point.
Four Nuts
Walnuts, pistachios, pecans, and almonds — toasted and layered in the right proportions. The blend is what makes the flavor complex without being heavy.
Honey Syrup
The syrup is made with organic honey, a touch of cinnamon, and fresh lemon. It soaks in slowly after baking, giving each piece its signature gloss and depth.
